The Westcliff men’s water polo team used Wednesday afternoon’s match with first-year Long Island University as a tune-up for this weekend’d Gary Troyer Invitational. The machine is well oiled, and ready to roll. The Warriors swam away with a 24-11 victory in a match that allowed for a clearing of the bench and extended minutes up and down the roster.

The audience was large and boisterous for the Westcliff men’s water polo home opener Tuesday at the Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, and the home fans went away happy following the Warriors’ 13-10 win over Biola.

 "It was great match overall, the boys just killed them in the 1st period 6-1. They performed well in the 2nd period we kept extending the lead. 4th period we started with 3 goal advantage. We ended the game 15-11 which was a great score for this team. Whittier is the 2nd strongest team at the DIII level. They played in the championship match against Pomona-Pitzer. My boys deserved the win. Roberto Barrera was standout he recorded 13 saves and even a half court shot for 1 goal. Giorgi our center was amazing finishing with 3 goals. Also Mateja Bosic also had 3 goals as well. The team overall is looking for nice. I think it was a big time win, it was prestigious win for our program."

The Westcliff men’s water polo team will face an incredibly tough schedule filled with highly ranked NCAA DI and DIII opponents in 2022. The Warriors start the season against Long Beach State, a DI water polo juggernaut, Saturday, Sept. 3 as the first contest of the Triton Invite. It doesn’t get any easier from there.

Maybe the men’s water polo team caught a bit of the magic left over from Wednesday night’s come-from-behind victories for men’s a women’s soccer. Following in their footsteps, the Warriors captured an 8-7 win over OUAZ Thursday afternoon at the Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine.

The Westcliff men’s water polo team found itself down 13-7 with two minutes left to play against DI powerhouse McKendree (Lebanon, Ill.) Thursday morning at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. With the contest essentially no longer in doubt and its best players already having played heavy minutes, the Warriors could have packed it in. Instead, they charged back, scoring three goals in a matter of seconds, and forcing a McKendree timeout. In the end, it was the Bearcats packing it in – sitting on possession and running out the clock for a 13-10 win.
