Warriors battle against Division 1 Opponents
By: SID CHASE DODGE
What Happened? Westcliff Warriors were invited to participate in the Gary Troyer Invitational. The 1st day was filled with heavy hitters for the warriors. First off was against the George Washington Colonials , " The team seemed tired from the day before. In the 4th quarter of the game we were trailing by many goals, but the team showed character and went on a run giving it all they've got." The final score of that match was 7-15. Coach Djippov, "The east coast D1 team GW came to the game prepared on how to shut us down on offense. This made it harder for us to score as our main players were double teamed. Djordje lead our team on offense with a hat trick as Vincenzo helped the warriors with another two goals." The Warriors ended the match with a total of 36 shots.
Next game we played the national ranked team Fordham (14). The boys woke up for the second game as they were able to end the first quarter tied 2-2 in a hard counter attack battle. The warriors showed spirit and an eagerness to beat a division 1 program as they battled all the way to the 4th quarter. By the end of the 3rd quarter the warriors were trailing 10-5 and began to fall short against the powerhouse team. The referees were definitely not in favor of the warriors as they gave us many negotiable calls. Even with two new losses under our belts we gained so much experience and are prepared to play the next two games of the Gary troyer invite. Luca Silvestre leads the warriors with a hat trick as Djordje followed him up with another two goals. Our goalie Roberto Barrera Sanchez also helped the warriors with a great 10 saves in cage.
What's Next? Westcliff Warriors will continue the Gary Troyer Invite with two more matchse against Washington&Jefferson and Augustana on 10/2 at 9:00am and 12:45pm
