Warriors Sweep UAV in Straight Sets
By Francisco Claudio
The Westcliff women's volleyball team got back on track as they defeated the University of Antelope Valley in straight sets on Saturday: 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.
The Warriors were coming off a heartbreaking loss to Providence Christian as they continue to push toward a spot in the postseason tournament.
Every game will be crucial for the Warriors who are only a couple of wins behind in the Cal Pac Conference standings.
The match against UAV was one-sided from the start and will be a morale booster after some tough losses in the last few weeks.
Westcliff felt very little resistance in the first set and took it comfortably 25-15.
In the second set, UAV came out strong winning the first five points.
The Warriors quickly adjusted as this became the crucial set of the match.
The set went back and forth as both teams held one-point leads toward the ending stages.
But a service error from UAV quickly ended it, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
Westcliff took command of the third set and was leading 23-13 before UAV made a strong push winning seven points in a row.
Up 23-20 now, the Warriors stopped the bleeding and closed it out with a kill from Serena Comer, the assist from Samantha Lister.
Lister had an impressive stat line of 11 kills, 22 assists, and 11 digs.
Comer also had double-digit kills with 10.
"There was a lot of offense and a lot of serving, 62 points out of the 75 were kills or serves," said head coach Andy Cole. "Responding with that kind of offensive pressure is a really good sign."
The team holds an overall record of 3-7 and a conference record of 3-5.
