Women's Volleyball 2022 campaign is about to begin. Coach Kenny Ma has put together an impressive preseason schedule that will challenge a lot of the veterans and newcomers on this warrior squad. Westcliff opens up its season with a double match against The Master's and Life Pacific this Saturday.
In less than a week, our Warriors will be heading to Texas to take part in the Our Lady of the Lake Tournament going up against SAGU, OLLU, Loyola and Friends. Finishing up the month of August with a match against Vanguard. We talked with Head Coach Kenny Ma about the upcoming season here is what he had to say.
Coach Ma, "Our expectations for our team is to be extremely competitive and have a lot of depth on our roster. Our goals will always be to win a Cal Pac & National Championship.
However, something that we are striving for this year is to also maintain a great culture that focuses on being there for one another like a family while keeping the competitive energy every single day. We want to make sure that everyone on our team has a great experience & enjoys the journey together!"
Westcliff returns a couple of veterans including warriors that earned All Cal Pac recognition last season in Elise Brown, Maddie Shepston and Michelle Do.
Coach Ma also will bring a few newcomers that will make an impact in the program.
"One of the newcomers that we are expecting to make an immediate impact is Fiona Moesching, a dominant freshman 6'0 outside hitter from Switzerland. She is predicted to come in and make an immediate impact not only on our team but in the conference and hopefully in the nation."
Another athlete that is expected to make an immediate impact, "will be incoming sophomore setter, Lina Ellila from Finland. Lina will be bringing in a lot of high level experience to our team as she competed in the 1st Division in Finland before being the #1 setter for NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Powerhouse, Blinn College."
"Leonor Chambel is also another athlete that we are expecting to make an immediate impact on our team. Leonor is an incoming senior libero from Lusofono Volleyball Team in Portugal. She will be bringing a wealth of experience as she guided her team to winning a National Championship and have competed in the top division in Portugal."
The Women's Volleyball team have a pretty tough schedule this season but some of the opponents we look forward to facing every year will be the University of Saint Katherine & Vanguard University. Our matches with USK have always been the most electric and competitive. Whether it's a "Home" or "Away" game, the Westcliff vs USK games are always the most packed.
Vanguard is basically our "local rivals" as they are the closest NAIA school to us and those games have always been very competitive with supporters from both schools in attendance (indoor and beach).
The future of Westcliff University Women's Volleyball is looking VERY bright as we have 15 underclassmen who are all very talented and could all make immediate impacts during their freshman or sophomore season!
Please join Coach Ma and his team this Saturday has they open up the season against The Master's and Life Pacific at Golden West College. Match times are 12pm and 5pm.
