WTEN Down Yotes, Secures GSAC Regular Season Title

The Westcliff women's tennis team won their sixth match in a row and secured the GSAC Regular Season title over the weekend when they hosted the College of Idaho.

This was the final conference match for the Warriors as they dominated their opponents for a quick 4-0 win which kept them with an undefeated conference record of 6-0 and an overall of 9-5.

"This team is very motivated to win," shared assistant coach Michael Longanecker after the match. "They want to perform at the national level and are ready to do what it takes.

"Winning the regular season two years in a row just shows how much this means to them to show up every day and build a championship team."

The match was over fairly quickly and only the singles matches were played due to the weather conditions.

Rain has been hitting Southern California this spring season so both teams agreed to play the single matches first.

Singles No. 6 Justina Haver Chang was on fire and did not give an inch away as she won without dropping a game 6-0, 6-0.

Singles No. 2 Hana Moss won her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Singles No. 3 Kanon Sorakubo won 6-1, 6-2.

Singles No. 4 Emilse Ruiz won 6-2, 6-0 as she is slowly getting back into the groove of things after being out with minor injuries throughout the season.

"Those that did return from last year have made strides in their games," described Longanecker on the improvements from last year. "Some of them are just small details or improvements in their decision-making or even just competing more in the off-season.

"This adds up over time and has contributed to their success this season."

Both Warrior tennis teams will take the courts on Thursday, April 4th, for an interesting match against Keiser at the Great Park.

These are teams that could meet at the national level so it will be fun to watch them compete and see how the Warriors fight against another of the elites in the NAIA.
