Missed Opportunities Warriors Tie in Home Opener
By: Chase Dodge
Westcliff Women's Soccer opens up their 2024 campaign with a non-conference opponent in the University of La Verne Leopards.
The atmosphere was packed with a lot of fans to cheer on your Warriors. The pace was conducted by Westcliff. Warriors kept majority possession of the ball in the 1st half.
However, Warriors were very limited in their shot selection only taking 5 shots compared to La Verne's 6.
Warriors were pushed defensively with 5 corner kicks in the 1st half with one shot being deflected by a defender of the goal line.
Halftime comes and goes with the Warriors with more energy than the 1st half.
Warriors shot a lot more to put pressure on the Leopards keeper. Unfortunately the Warriors couldn't find the back of the net.
Westcliff would settle for a tie with the University of La Verne.

Coaches' Notes
"We need to make the right choices when we go from the midfield to the front. Part of that is we believe we need to have more control over the game, creating less transitions, being mindful when to get aggressive on the attack. Right now our defensive third to our midfield is great we kept a lot of possession in that area. Having said all of that we had 3-4 great opportunities for us to roll the ball into the net. In between the boxes we were good, in the defensive 18 we were good it was in the attacking 18 that we need to improve on." - Assistant Coach Matt Ferren
Westcliff will be back at home against Lincoln University at 7pm on Sept 13th at Long Beach City College.
