WU Overpowers PUC for Third in a Row
The Westcliff women's basketball team seems to have turned the corner at a very important point in the season with a third win in a row against Pacific Union.
On Thursday the Warriors hosted Pacific Union and got a very convincing win 87-52 behind Eva Taylor's season-high 25 points.
With the win, the Warriors improved to (10-8, Cal Pac 8-5) as the conference standing is set for an interesting final weeks.
Pacific Union scored the first two buckets of the game before the Warriors overtook them and never let go of the lead.
Westcliff's largest lead came in the fourth quarter when they led by 43 points which is one of the biggest of the season thus far.
Taylor had herself a monstrous game with a season-high 25 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Taylor was especially on target from the three-point line as she knocked down 5-7, to tie her season-high in made threes.
Off the bench, Maggie Lapray scored 12 points on 2-2 from beyond the arc. Lapray looked confident out on the floor and had some very creative moves that almost went in. It will be interesting what she'll be able to do for the rest of the season and beyond because there is lots of talent and shooting displayed by this Warrior.
Westcliff outrebounded the Pioneers 38-29 and had three times the amount of assists, 18-6.
Katie Nguyen was aggressive on the offensive and especially on the defensive end which earned her six steals which is a season-high for the Warriors. Nguyen scored 11 points on 50% shooting from the field.
The Warriors as a team were very active with their hands which earned them 15 steals and they were able to force the Pioneers to have 28 turnovers.
WU took advantage of those errors and 46 points off of turnovers compared to just two by PUC.
Jalen Long was one of the few players who struggled to shoot the ball but was still able to score 14 points and dished out four assists.
There are seven games left to be played for the Warriors as they will need every win to stay within the top six teams that make it into the postseason tournament.
