Warriors Fall to Red Hawks

With 10 conference games left in the basketball season, the next couple of weeks will be important for the Warriors to place in the top six that will make it to the conference tournament.

Currently, the Westcliff women's basketball team is going through it little rough patch after having lost against Simpson University 55-46, over the weekend.

This was the second loss in a row for the Warriors as their record is now (7-8, Cal Pac 6-4), good for the sixth spot in the conference standings.

Westcliff started off very well in the first quarter as they went on a 9-0 run that resulted in an early time-out by the Red Hawks.

But the Warriors were able to outwork their opponent and a layup from Janelle Ramos gave them an 11-point lead, the biggest of the game so far. The first quarter ended with the Warriors up 15-6.

But Westcliff struggled to score in the second and third quarters as they only made two field goals in each quarter.

On the contrary, Simpson was able to use that to flip the game score and momentum. Going into the fourth quarter. Westcliff was down double-digits 42-29.

They tried to make a comeback as Jalen Long and Maggie Lapray hit some big threes, but time was not in their favor with less than two minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

They were able to get as close as seven points before Simpson put it away in the last minute of the game.

Westcliff shot 25% from the field and 29.4% from long-range.

Both teams made 11 free throws and were nearly even in steal counts.

Up next, WU will face USK on the road on Tuesday and UAV at home on Thursday.
