As the Season Concludes, Warriors Focus on the Playoffs
By Francisco Claudio
Westcliff women's basketball team played their final game of the regular season last Sunday against Benedictine Mesa.
The result didn't go the Warriors' way as they were defeated 68-60.
But there was still much to celebrate that evening as it was senior night for their lone senior Trinity Vasquez.
Westcliff was also in a positive mindset since they had already booked their ticket into the playoffs with the win against Park-Gilbert.
There were a lot of emotions and the energy could be felt by both the crowd and the teams.
The Warriors got off to a great start and finished the first quarter up 21-11.
But the Redhawks were putting up a fight because they were battling for a chance to get the last spot in the Cal Pac Tournament.
In the second quarter, the Warriors could not make a basket shooting 21% from the field and making only four field goals.
The Warriors lost the second quarter 21-11.
The third quarter was even with Westcliff winning it by one point as they entered the fourth up 47-46.
But the shooting woes continued for the Warriors in the fourth quarter as they were outscored 22-13 and would lose by eight points.
Now the Warriors shift their focus to the playoffs which will start on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Arizona.
Westcliff will play in the first game as the #4 seed against #5 seed UC Merced at 3:30 MST.
The Warriors went 1-1 vs UC Merced during the regular season.
