Warriors are One Win Away from the Postseason
By Francisco Claudio
Westcliff women's basketball team is still fighting for a place in the postseason, the Cal Pac Tournament.
The Warriors with just one win away from qualifying will have to wait one more day as they took on Embry-Riddle on Thursday night and lost, 68-54.
Nothing has come easy for the Warriors this season, and getting a ticket to join the postseason is another example.
Westcliff was able to keep it close through two quarters and went into the locker room trailing by just two points, 27-25.
But the Embry-Riddle Eagles had different plans to start the third quarter.
The Eagles were able to get some separation and took a nine-point lead with four minutes to go in the third.
The Warriors weren't able to cut into the deficit and started the fourth quarter down 49-40.
Westcliff wasn't able to string together enough stops in the fourth to make a run and was facing a double-digit deficit with one minute left in the game.
They shot 40% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc.
The Warriors made 16 free throws on eight more attempts than the Eagles.
The Warriors got a big performance from Trinity Vasques who scored a game-high 26 points, with four rebounds, and four assists.
Janelle Ramos was in double digits too with 10 points, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
Westcliff will shift its focus to its next game which is against Park-Gilbert on Friday, Feb.17.
The tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.
