Warriors Battled Hard in Make Up Game
By Francisco Claudio
Westcliff women's basketball team visited Park-Gilbert in what was the makeup game that had to be postponed the first time around.
The Warriors were coming off two very dominant performances over Cal Maritime and Pacific Union where they won by over 39 points.
But on Monday afternoon the Warriors weren't able to get over the hump losing 73-69.
Westcliff will have to wait for another game to see if they can qualify for the postseason.
The game started where it had left off last time with the Warriors down 8-4 with five minutes left in the first quarter.
Westcliff had a hard time establishing any momentum in the game and was soon down by double-digits, 21-10 to end the first quarter.
The game stayed this way for much of the second and third quarters, and it wasn't until the fourth that the Warriors were able to string together a sequence of good possessions.
After being down by more than five points for most of the game the Warriors were able to get within one in the early stages of the fourth.
From there it was a back-and-forth battle to see who could get enough stops and score at the same time.
Unfortunately, a tired Westcliff team that was playing two games in three days, could not get the win that would move them into the Cal Pac Tournament.
Even so, the Warriors got strong performances from their starters.
Trinity Vasquez scored 18 points, got eight rebounds, and dished out two assists.
Valisa Millhouse had eight points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Katie Nguyen almost had a double-double with eight points and 14 rebounds.
Janelle Ramos did collect a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Warriors close out the season this week with three home games.
Up next will be Embry-Riddle on Thursday, Feb. 16 with tip-off at 5:30 PM.
