Another Quick Start Which Seals the Game Early
By Francisco Claudio
For the second game in a row, the Westcliff women's basketball team has held a huge lead, cruising into another successful win.
On Saturday night, the Warriors took on Pacific Union College and were in complete control from start to finish as they won 81-42.
But head coach Kyle Rouse knows his team can still play better: "It was decent, I think the biggest term for today is inconsistent."
"We know as far as execution, especially on the defensive side, we have to get a little more consistent."
It says a lot when the team wins, but their coach knows that there is another level they can reach.
If the Warriors do have another level they can hit, this is the right time to get there as the season is in its last few games to play.
The Warriors got off to an 8-0 start that led to an early Pacific Union timeout.
But that wouldn't be able to stop the Warriors from taking care of business early on and taking their opponent out of the game.
At the end of the first quarter, Westcliff had increased their lead to 27-6.
But even though they were in complete control during the rest of the game, it was the first quarter where they performed best.
They won the next three quarters, but by only single digits.
"Just defensively we have to fix some things going into next week that will help us be a bit more efficient on the defensive side," said Rouse.
Westcliff is in a battle as they are trying to qualify for the postseason, the Cal Pac Tournament.
They are in a good spot right now, sitting as the third seed, with four games to play in the regular season.
The Warriors had solid performances from everyone who stepped out on the floor.
Trinity Vasquez had a game-high 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Neyha Lali helped with 13 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
Valisa Millhouse had a very impressive stat line with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
"As far as the last two games, the execution was there offensively," said Rouse. We've been good, very unselfish. I think we were over 20 assists a game two games in a row."
Up next the Warriors will resume the game with Park Gilbert University that was postponed.
The game will take place on Feb. 13 at 4:30 PM.
