Slow Start Proves Too Much for the Warriors
On Saturday the Westcliff women's basketball visited Westmont College in a non-conference matchup where they came up short, 60-40.
This is the last time the Warriors face off against someone not in their conference, as the remainder of their schedule becomes so crucial for their season.
The Warriors had a slow start against Westmont as they went scoreless and found themselves down 9-0.
This led to an uphill battle that Westcliff was trying to come back from throughout the rest of the game.
As the second quarter ended, the Warriors went on an 8-2 run to go into the locker room trailing 26-19.
They came out with good energy to score the first bucket of the second half, but Westmont would not give up the lead they had created.
At the end of the third, the Warriors were looking at a double-digit deficit of 42-27.
Both the first and third quarters will be something that Westcliff will pinpoint as important factors for this loss.
They were held to single-digit scoring during both quarters, allowing Westmont to build their lead.
Eva Taylor scored 12 points and grabbed two rebounds.
Trinity Vasquez scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had a pair of assists.
The Warriors were held to 30.8% from the field and 20 turnovers, leading to 24 points for the opponent team.
Up Next will be the University of Antelope Valley as Westcliff will try to stay undefeated in the Cal Pac Conference competition.
The Warriors are the last remaining conference team without a loss as they sit at the top of the standings with a (4-0) conference record and (7-3) overall.
The game will be away on Tuesday, December 20th, at 5:30 PM.
