Another Win in the Books
The Westcliff women's basketball team was looking to stay undefeated in the California Pacific Conference standings as they hosted Simpson University on Thursday night.
They had won their last five games in a row but were meeting a worthy foe as the Red Hawks were also unbeaten in the Cal Pac.
At the end of the night, the Warriors kept their winning streak alive after a hard-fought match beating Simpson University 56-54.
But the winning streak isn't enough for head coach Kyle Rouse as he is always looking for the improvements the team can make game to game.
"Ultimately our goals are just maintaining growth and if wins are the byproduct of that, we will definitely be happy with that," Rouse said.
The team definitely has its eyes on the prize and this great start to the season should surprise no one.
"The team has set goals for the season and they are long-term goals, not short-term goals, being able to keep challenging ourselves not only with opponents but challenging each other will help us maintain this success and that is our goal and outlook to keep this moving forward," Rouse said.
Trinity Vasquez continued her solid season scoring 18 points, with five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Valisa Millhouse scored 12 points, collected four rebounds, and had two steals.
Neyha Lali came off the bench with a spark to score eight points, grabbed five rebounds, and four steals.
And it's when the Warriors play solid defense, get steals, and force turnovers that they are the most dangerous.
"Ultimately it will always come down to defense. Can we get stops when we need to and we did that fortunately tonight," Rouse said.
Westcliff will continue its busy schedule as they finish off a back-to-back when they host UC Merced on Friday, December 9th.
It will be another tough matchup, but it looks like the Warriors have found the formula to winning, and it starts with their defense.
Play will tip off at 5:30 PM, at the Jordan Lawley Gym, in the city of Irvine.
