Warriors Continue Their Winning Streak
The Westcliff women's basketball team continued their early season run and remained unbeaten in California Pacific Conference play.
Last Saturday they faced Cal Maritime and took care of business for a final score of 91-64.
Getting off to a hot start and building a lead in the first quarter was important in this contest.
This is the second game in a row that the Warriors landed the early punch and were able to sustain it throughout the rest of the game.
The Warriors were able to force early turnovers but were also helped by missed layups from the Keelhaulers.
After a jump shot from Eva Taylor, Westcliff closed out the first quarter, 26-14.
They were able to stay even in the second quarter and finished the first half with a double-digit lead.
Once again, the Warriors benefited from the halftime break and scored the first nine points of the third quarter to extend their lead.
The start of both halves was the key and ultimately earned the Warriors the win -- their fourth in a row.
Trinity Vasquez scored 19 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and had four assists.
Eva Taylor had 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Polina Kovaleva scored 12 points with a pair of assists and steals.
Elizabeth Shimizu had 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
With the win, Westcliff improved its conference record to 2-0 with an overall record of 5-2.
The Warriors find themselves in fourth place in the Cal Pac Conference, with much of the season yet to be played.
Next, the Warriors will battle it out against Simpson University, which currently stands at the top of the conference.
It promises to be a good early-season match-up for both teams. One will collect its first loss.
The game will take place at home for the Warriors on December 8th at 7:30 PM.
