Warriors Drop Two Non-Conference Games to Avila

The Westcliff softball team played their third doubleheader in three days against the Avila University Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

This was a nonconference game that concludes the Warriors' homestand as they will be on the road the following week.
 
Both games were close but the Warriors could not get a win as they fell 6-4 and 7-5.
 
In Game 1, Westcliff scored four runs in the bottom of the which was led by Airiln Ramirez who got on base after a fielder's choice.
 
Celeste Huffman who was on third base made it to home plate and put the Warriors up 1-0.
 
A few unconventional plays later, Westcliff extended their lead and was in control of the game.
 
But Avila responded and would score at least one run in the remaining five innings while holding off WU to zero.
 
Westcliff was held to just six hits in the game.
 
Emily Rosas went all seven innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits while striking out six.
 
In Game 2, the Warriors scored the first runs in the bottom of the third and were ahead early on. 
 
But again, the Eagles would go on to score at least one run in each after that and were able to flip the score.
 
Alexyia Reyes went (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and and scored one run.
 
Huffman was (3-for-4) and scored one run as well.
 
Alex Corrales was the starting pitcher and went 4.1 innings while allowing four runs on two hits.
 
Rosas threw for 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits.
 
After the losses, the Warriors' record dropped to (14-12, Cal Pac 8-0) as they will hit the road to play Park-Gilbert in Arizona this weekend.
