WU Comes Up Short in Day Two of Roadtrip

On day two of their weekend road trip, the Westcliff softball team was scheduled to play another doubleheader with one game versus Menlo and followed up with another against William Jessup.

 
The Warriors' nonconference schedules are planned to challenge the team and best prepare them for the conference games. 
 
Against Menlo, Westcliff took the lead by scoring in the top of the first which was the first time during this trip that they had been on top.
 
But Menlo came back and took the game 4-2.
 
In the first inning, the Warriors scored after a single to left field by Alexyia Reyes. There was a throwing error by the left fielder which allowed Lauren Coppla to score an unearned run.
 
Afterward, Kassandra Ramos stepped up to the plate and singled through the left side, allowing Reyes to score.
 
After one inning, Westcliff was up 2-0.
 
But Menlo was able to make contact with the ball and scored both in the bottom of the first and second inning to take the lead 3-2.
 
The Warriors weren't able to score again as Menlo scored one more in the bottom of the sixth.
 
But for the first time in this trip, the Warriors were able to have the lead in hits as they finished with six compared to five from the opponent.
 
Etta Van Burgsteden pitched the first two innings before Emily Rosas came in to pitch the remaining four.
 
The second game against William Jessup followed the same pattern as the first, with both teams struggling to get hits.
 
WU had four hits and William Jessup recorded five.
 
But this time Westcliff was unable to score as Jessup took the game 3-0.
 
With the losses, Westcliff's record now stands at 1-5, but they will get another shot on Sunday against Corban (OR).
