Warriors Split Doubleheader Against LSU
Westcliff's softball team enters the last portion of their regular season with only two opponents left to play before they prepare for the Cal Pac Tournament.
On Friday they started their series against the La Sierra Golden Eagles by splitting the first doubleheader.
Game 1 Warriors def. LSU 7-4, Game 2 LSU def. Warrior 8-0
The Warriors have had a couple of bumps in the second half of the season that has cost them from having longer winning streaks.
On Friday Game 1 had action from the beginning as both teams scored a pair of runs in the first.
Celeste Huffman grounded out to third base, allowing Airilin Ramirez to score the first run.
Then Diamond Lewis would fly out to center field, bringing Haley Garcia home for the second run, as the Warriors tied it up 2-2.
But the Warriors found themselves down again after La Sierra scored a run in the second and third innings.
Huffman continued her solid season with a batting average of .300, as she hit a single to center field in the top of the fifth inning.
This allowed Garcia to reach third base and brought in Ramirez to score.
Up next, Lewis was able to hit a single to shortstop which allowed Garcia to score and tie it up again, 4-4.
Neither team was able to score again, so after seven innings we were going the distance.
But the Warriors made quick work in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs and kept the Golden Eagles scoreless during their turn for the win.
Nina Hendriks was huge for the Warriors coming in to pitch in the fourth inning and striking out six players.
In the second game, it was a different version of this Warriors team.
Westcliff could not make contact with the ball with only one hit in total for the game.
La Sierra scored four runs in the first and four more in the fifth inning in a quick game, under two hours.
These teams will play each other again on Sunday for the second doubleheader with a start time of 12:00 PM.
This is the last conference opponent for the Warriors who have an overall record of (25-17) and a conference record of (17-9).
