POCKET ACES
Warriors Roll On, Title Nears
By Brandon Petersen
If things keep going as planned the No. 14 Westcliff men's volleyball team will be the first in program history to clinch a Cal Pac championship in its home venue.
In other words, if the status quo remains, there's a party ahead.
Warrior fans will feature, but rest assured, everyone's invited.
Speaking of parties, the Dubs' 3-1 win over Pacific Union in Cypress Thursday night featured more aces than a late-night World Poker Tour re-run.
Michael Schoffstall had pocket aces all night – dealing a lucky seven from the service stripe to be exact – and led the Warriors (14-4, 6-0) to a men's volleyball program-record 18 on the night.
Rodolfo Biegelmeyer, Nikos Kalagasidis, and Jacob Bulosan all had a pair of aces.
Andrin Broder, Gabriel Pizza, Tom Dempsey, Tiago Silva and Pawel Tuz all contributed one each to the record-breaking performance.
Pizza carried the night as the player of the game, chalking up 14 finishes. Connor McCann had 12.
Tuz had 21 assists, and Kalagasidis had 15 more.
Pizza paced the effort on 'D, with eight digs. Schoffstall had six, and Biegelmeyer had five.
M'hamid Mifdal patrolled the middle nicely, turning in a team-high four blocks.
Biegelmeyer and McCann had three each.
Tuz stuffed a pair.
Next up, the Dubs welcome Merced tonight in Cypress for a 6 p.m. first-serve.
Tomorrow the Warriors face Simpson at Golden West at six as well.
