CLUTCH VICTORY
Schoffstall Serves Up Victory for Dubs
By Brandon Petersen
The No. 11 Westcliff men's volleyball team got a huge win over No. 13 Hope Wednesday in Fullerton.
With the score deadlocked at 10 in the fifth set, the Warriors were able to run off five straight to walk away with a very good road win, 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 14-25, 15-10).
Michael Schoffstall was the catalyst in the fifth, serving up four straight winners to give Westcliff all the momentum it would need.
"Michael did a good job applying service pressure at the end," Westcliff head coach Alex Griffiths said. "We had some really high highs, but too long on the lows.
"Right now, we need more consistency."
Standouts Wednesday were the usual suspects, with Gabriel Pizza and Rodolfo Biegelmeyer leading the way on the attack.
Pizza finished with 13 kills on a .423 hitting percentage and collected 11 digs.
Biegelmeyer, meanwhile, chalked up 12 kills (.259) and collected four blocks at net.
The man in the middle was Pawel Tuz (35 assists, six digs), and Tiago Silva had a nice day on the defensive end, blocking five.
Tom Dempsey and Connor McCann both had eight kills.
At last, the Warriors will finally come home for the first time this season, next Thursday, the 27th.
First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Golden West.
