THEY’RE BACK!
No. 8 Men’s Volleyball Starts Strong in Missouri
By Brandon Petersen
One of the most anticipated seasons of the entire Westcliff athletic calendar has finally arrived.
After its Cinderella run to take down the Goliath of BenU and coming all the way back to knock out UC Merced at the Cal Pac championships, then following it up with a first-round win at nationals, men's volleyball is finally back, and we're here for it.
The Warriors' first chance to walk on the court as reigning Cal Pac champions came Thursday in Parkville, Mo at the 2025 Park Invitational, where the Dubs squared off with fellow NAIA national tournament participant from a year ago, Jamestown, which is scheduled to move up to NCAA Division II a year from now.
The match was a classic back-and-forth affair that came down to a nail-biting Game 5.
Sound familiar?
Having been there, done that, and then some, the veteran Warriors prevailed with a 15-13 decision in the final set to claim the early win 3-2 (25-22,18-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13) and move to 1-0.
The names you know, and a few newcomers you may not be familiar with yet, filled the stat sheet.
Gabriel Pizza turned in 13 kills, and Tom Dempsey had 15.
Rodolfo Beiglemeyer led the way, however, turning in a team-high 17 kills.
Handling the middle, Nikos Kalagsadis was solid, finishing with 30 assists.
Defensively, Dempsey came up with seven digs, Sebastian Ignaczak and Beiglemeyer had six apiece and both Pizza and Michael Schoffstall had four each.
The Warriors (1-0) return to the court Friday for a meeting with Kansas Wesleyan in the second round.
First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. pacific.
