Warriors sweep the Firebirds

Warriors opened up Cal Pac Play with a home match against Saint Katherine.

Match opened up with both teams trading points back and forth the entire 1st set. Warriors slowly gained a lead of 4 in the middle of the set.

After a Firebirds timeout Saint Katherine started chipping away at the gap.

Firebirds were able to tie the match at 20 a piece.

Warriors were able to separate from clutch Kills in the middle from Connor McCann. Gabriel Pizza finished the set with statement Kill to give the Warriors the set win.

The 2nd set was like the 1st with both teams in the beginning trading points never gaining a lead more than 2.

Warriors in the middle of the set went on a 3-0 run from Kills again from Connor McCann and Gabriel Pizza.

Warriors continued with another 3-0 run to capture the 2nd set.

Heading into the 3rd set the Warriors had all the momentum in the world.

Warriors this time didn't keep the set close with the largest lead of the night with 7 at one point. Warriors easily capture the 3rd and the 3-0 sweep against the Firebirds.

This match saw a lot of standout performances.

Warriors saw the Kills spread across multiple hitters. Gabriel Pizza grabbed 9 Kills.

Lisati Viala also had 9 Kills with .438 hitting.

Most Impressive was Connor McCann hitting 8 Kills with 0 errors on 8 attempts for an impressive 1.00 hitting percentage. 

Pawel Tuz was in his normal form dishing out 25 Assists along with 6 Digs.

On the back line saw Leonardo Garcia, Trevor Meyer, Gabriel Pizza, Pawel Tuz and Tom Dempsey earn 5+ Digs in the match.

We talked to Head Coach Alex Griffiths on the match here is what she had to say, " Our service reception has improved a lot which was an area we have been keying on.

We need to work on becoming more dimensional as players and have faster movement both on offense and defense. Overall it was a great way to start the conference season going 1-0."

Warriors have a 3 match streak next week taking on UC Merced, Simpson and Pacific Union.
