Warriors calm the Firestorm
Westcliff Warriors (5-2) hosted Arizona Christian Firestorm (1-4).
The match started off with the Firestorm getting ahead of the Warriors in the 1st set capturing it 25-18.
The 2nd set saw both teams going back and forth until Gabriel Pizza hit 4 service aces to extend their lead to 15-10.
The Warriors capture the 2nd set 25-22.
The 3rd set saw the Warriors with some excellent serving pulled away from the Firestorm with point difference as high as 9.
Warriors still had to battle a late comeback in the set from the Firestorm. However, 3rd set goes to Westcliff 25-22.
4th set was a reversal of the 3rd that saw ACU pulling out ahead going up as high as 10-2.
Warriors never gave up and slowly chipped away at the massive lead to tie the set at 20-20 and 21-21.
Firestorm with some back to back kills force the 5th set showdown with the Warriors.
5th set showdown against (RV) WU and (RV) ACU was filled with high power Aces and Kills.
Warriors went on a 5-0 run in the 5th and never looked back. Methodical Kills from Ilias Lazaar extend the lead to as high as 12-2.
Firestorm faced 3 match points but a serving error gave the set and the win to the Warriors.
Standout performances against the Firestorm Ilias Lazaar hit a team high 18 Kills with 15 Digs and 4 Total Blocks.
Michael Shoffstall and Pawel Tuz both recorded double digit assists at setter. Schoffstall - 24 Assists and Tuz - 18 Assists.
Thomas Taufetee hit for 9 Kills with 3 Service Aces and 9 Digs.
Lisati Viala recorded a game high 5 total blocks with 6 Kills and 3 Assists.
Gabriel Pizza had a most impressive match recording a triple double. Pizza hit for 16 Kills and 10 Digs.
Pizza shattered a Westcliff record that stood tall for 4 years.
Pizza record a total of 11 Service Aces at crucial moments in the match to capture and secure the win over the Firestorm.
Westcliff will be on the road next week as they will be taking on #1 The Master's.
