Warriors Win Close Contest, Advance to Finals

The Westcliff men's soccer team has advanced to the final game of the Cal Pac Championships as they beat Park-Gilbert by a narrow margin, 2-1.
 
The No. 1 seed in the conference is one game away from completing what has been a historic season for the program.
 
But it wasn't easy as the Warriors found themselves in a close battle against Park-Gilbert on Thursday evening at La Sierra University in Riverside, California.
 
The Warriors surprised their opponent with a quick goal just a minute into playing time as Quentin Hornung set up Jordan Di Lonardo who snuck it past the goalkeeper.
 
Westcliff was able to get more shots in the first half but the score stayed the same as the first 45 minutes ended with just the one goal difference.
 
The Warriors had eight shots to Park's four in the first half.
 
Then again, Westcliff was able to catch Park-Gilbert off guard less than two minutes into the second half as Lucas Rosell found the back of the net after a pass from John Adekunle.
 
Very little separated the teams for most of the second half and it wasn't until the 80th minute that Park-Gilbert was able to score their first goal.
 
But the Warriors were able to control the last minutes of the game and successfully advanced to the final game which will be held on Saturday.
 
The final match-up will be one you will not want to miss as Westcliff faces off against UC Merced.
 
The Warriors' only loss of the season came to UC Merced back in September with a score of 4-2.
 
From then on Westcliff has gone on to win their last 10 games including Thursday's semifinal match.
 
The game will be held at La Sierra again, with a start time of 6:00PM.
