WU Starts a New Winning Streak with Dominant 7-0
By Francisco Claudio
At this point, the Westcliff men's soccer team has proven that they will be one of the top contenders for the Cal Pac Conference Tournament once all is done.
What's even more encouraging is the way the team has responded since losing their first game against UC Merced.
Since then, Westcliff won 4-3 against Simpson and yesterday impressed by dominating Pacific Union College with a score of 7-0.
This is the fifth time this season the Warriors have won while restricting their opponents to zero goals.
The first goal came in the sixth minute by Jordan Di Lonardo with a couple of passes from Quentin Hornung and Daniel Segal.
John Adekunle scored the second in the 21st minute.
Then one minute later Hornung scored, this time Di Lonardo was the man with the pass.
Adekunle was the only Warrior to score a second goal as he put them up 5-0 in the 36th minute.
"It was a big win coming off five days on the road," said head coach Randy Dodge. "Last week we played two very good teams away. We didn't get the result we wanted against UC Merced but the guys responded and played very well against Simpson on Sunday."
This was another game that Westcliff dominated from the beginning and always seemed to be in control with little pressure from PUC.
"These guys responded really well, came out hungry, and went to work," Dodge said. "We were disciplined today like in everything we've done throughout the season and we'll just continue to build off of that.
"Again, we take it one half at a time for a full game and then we figure out what we need to do."
The Warriors continue being at the top of the Cal Pac standings with a record of 4-1.
Hornung leads the conference with 10 goals while Di Lonardo is number one in assists with 10.
Up Next: The Warriors have one more game this weekend against Cal Maritime on Sunday, September 24, at 4:00PM.
The game will be played at the OC Great Park in field 18.
