The season of firsts continues.

Men's Soccer had a banner year in 2021, becoming the first Westcliff program to qualify for the California Pacific Conference playoffs.

Now men's soccer has claimed another Westcliff first: Quentin Hornung has been named an NAIA All-American.

The All-American selections were revealed by the NAIA Wednesday afternoon.

"Q is a very intelligent player," Westcliff head coach Tom Lancaster said. "His teammates feed off his energy when he is on the ball. He will have lots of discussions with teammates during games to find solutions to help break down the opponent. In training, he is the same."

Not only did Hornung lead the Cal Pac in goals scored with 19, he also was best in the league in points (45) and shots (79). His seven assists were good for fifth overall in Cal Pac play.

Hornung was fourth in the country in goals scored, fifth in shots and 61st in assists.

"He is a tremendous player," Lancaster said. "He has a lot of creativity, technical quality, and the ability to get on the ball in dangerous areas of the field."

As a team, Westcliff was the No. 1 ranked team nationally in shots-per-game, third in shots-on-goal and fifth in goals scored.

Hornung was also named the Cal Pac Player of the Year, and teammate Jakob Schnitzler was the league's defensive player of the year.

"It is a fantastic achievement for both Q and Jakob," Lancaster said. "But it is just the start for our program as we continue to build."

Both Hornung and Schnitzler will return a year from now, and along with their teammates will have a bit of unfinished business on their minds.

"Quentin wants to succeed at Nationals," Lancaster said. "That's his goal for next season, so he can definitely top what he did last season."
