Warriors Cruise Past LSU, Tie Scoring Record
The Westcliff men's basketball team cruised past La Sierra University and tied a school record for points in a game on Saturday night.
The Warriors got back to winning as they overwhelmed La Sierra 109-56 and improved their record to (14-9, Cal Pac 13-5).
Westcliff took the lead after a missed shot from La Sierra that led to a three-pointer by Micaiah Hankins. WU started the game strong with a 7-0 run, pulling ahead of LSU.
After 10 minutes of play, the Warriors were up 29-9 and were in complete control of the ball game for the rest of the game.
Westcliff broke the school record by shooting 63.1% as a team for the entirety of the ball game.
They were an efficient 90% from the free throw line converting on 19-21.
They also tied their school record for assists in a game with 21.
With one of the best performances of the season, Westcliff is still trying to climb up the conference standings. They currently sit as the third seed but have an excellent chance to move up to second place.
This could ensure that they would face the No. 1 seed UAV until the championship game of the postseason.
For the game, Ray Witt Jr. led the way with 17 points on 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc.
John Duff earned himself a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Lorenzo Marsh had a perfect game scoring 16 points and was perfect from the field and free throw line.
Jamal Briscoe had an all-around game with 12 points, four steals, three assists, and three rebounds.
Hankins recorded 13 points, five assists, two rebounds, and two steals.
The Warriors are in the final stretch of the regular season with only two games left to be played.
That will occur this week when they play Simpson University on Thursday and UC Merced the following Saturday.
