Briscoe Steals the Show With New Record and Win
This team is on fire and it's been fun watching them buy into the system instilled by Head Coach Jerred Cook during this eight-game winning streak.
On Thursday, the Westcliff men's basketball team extended their winning streak as they took down Park-Gilbert comfortably, 90-74.
What's been just as impressive is the rise of Jamal Briscoe who won back-to-back Cal Pac Player of the Week just a few weeks ago.
Then on Thursday Briscoe accomplished another feat as he recorded a double-double with 30 points and 10 steals.
Impressive to say the least.
Briscoe's 10 steals set a new Westcliff Athletics record and completely surpassed the previous record of five.
Briscoe had already tied the previous record this season with five steals in early December.
The ball game was evenly matched for the first five minutes, but Westcliff began to pull ahead after Briscoe made an and-one layup.
Lorenzo Marsh and Ray Witt Jr added to the barrage with a three from each to put the Warriors up 21-14.
Park-Gilbert tried to get within a bucket a couple of times during the first half but the Westcliff was able to respond appropriately and finished the half up 43-37.
WU won the second half 47-37 to improve their record to (12-8, Cal Pac 11-4) which is good for the third seed. They are only one game behind the second-seed UC Merced Bobcats.
For the game, the team shot almost 48% from the field and went 50% from beyond the arc.
12 of Briscoe's 30 points came from beyond the arc as he shot 67%.
John Duff almost had himself a double-double as well with eight points and eight rebounds, However, Duff struggled shooting the ball and was 20%f from the field.
Off the bench, Justin Boateng was a perfect 5-5 from the field and recorded 10 points and two rebounds.
Up next the Warriors will play Benedictine Mesa who is one of the top six teams trying to qualify into the postseason.
The game will be at Benedictine Mesa on Saturday, February 10th, with a start time of 6:00 p.m.
