WU Struggles at the Line Hurt Them in 2nd Half
The Westcliff men's basketball team fell to La Sierra University on Thursday, 89-75, as the defending champs continue in search of some continuity this season.
The Warriors have not been able to go on a winning streak this season as they continue to battle against their conference opponents.
On Thursday, there was one area that hurt the Warriors more so than any other, and that was free throws.
Westcliff scored half of their free throws in the first half going 6-12. La Sierra would go score 6-7.
But in the second the Warriors' free throw struggles continued as they shot 12-21 while LSU only missed two.
It was a high-scoring game for both teams as they each shot 54% from the field and 43% from the three-point line.
After trailing by just one point 41-40 going into the halftime break, Westcliff was able to take the lead 58-53 with 12 minutes left in the second half.
But that's when they mightily struggled from the free throw line and La Sierra benefitted as they took a double-digit lead.
With the loss, Westcliff's record stands at (4-8, Cal Pac 3-4). They are in the seventh spot in the conference standings but are only a couple of wins from leaping to the fifth spot.
John Duff almost had himself another double-double as he scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Rayven Turner scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds as well as knocking down a couple from long range.
Jamal Briscoe scored 11 points as he went 7-8 from the free throw line, but he struggled shooting the ball in the game.
Justin Boateng scored 16 points and was perfect from the field, but he struggled to knock down his free throws.
Up next, the Warriors will try to get back in the winning column as they host ERAU on Saturday, with a 2:00 PM start.
