Strong Performance to End the Year
The Westcliff men's basketball team was looking to end the year on a high note as they took on La Sierra University Thursday evening.
Everything was clicking for the Warriors as they built off their strong start and cruised to an 89-53 win.
At the end of the first half, they had a double-digit lead with the help of Cap Uzan who knocked down four baskets from beyond the arc.
Uzan finished the half with 16 points on what would only be the beginning of a strong performance that would carry over into the second half.
Westcliff finished the first half up 36-24 while shooting 46.7% from the field and outrebounding the Golden Eagles, 23-9.
In the second half, the Warriors found another gear and it was beautiful to watch as everyone played the right way and were genuinely enjoying themselves.
Five minutes into the second half they had extended their lead to 20 points, and it seemed like nothing could stop them.
The Warriors never looked back as they were able to get a much-needed win after dropping their last match against Antelope Valley.
Cap Uzan finished with 27 points, four steals, and three assists. He continued his strong shooting in the second half and finished the game with seven 3-pointers.
Olisa Ngonadi scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had seven monstrous blocks.
The Warriors were able to score efficiently as they finished the game shooting 42.3% from three and 53.1% overall from the field.
They outrebounded La Sierra 44-23 and had more assists to 19-5.
It was a great performance by the Warriors all around as they were able to outperform La Sierra in every category in the box score.
With this win, Westcliff has an overall record of (4-5) and a Cal Pac record of (3-3).
They are currently sitting in the fifth spot in the conference with 14 games left to be played.
This next stretch will be important because all of them are conference games that will determine if the Warriors will continue playing into the postseason.
They will get a week off heading into the new year as they prepare for the next game.
Up next will be the University of Saint Katherine on January 7th. The tip-off will be at 2 PM.
