It wasn't the start the Westcliff baseball team was looking for when conference play kicked off last weekend at Simpson, as a two-loss Saturday led to a 1-2 series loss.
Because the fourth contest in a series no longer counts toward a league tally, although the Warriors won two on Sunday, they still ended up on the short side of the stick.
Sunday featured a pair of 9-2 wins for the good guys.
Justin Guzman got the win in Game 1, tossing five full innings of two-hit ball.
Tyler Linnel and Domingo Gaxiola closed it out.
On the offensive side, Ian Avalos, Patrick Morgan and Nick Malvini all went yard.
The Warriors broke a program record for homeruns in a series with eight over the weekend.
"We came into Simpson with a slow start, but the way our guys showed passion and heart on the second day really proved what we can do," Westcliff head coach Dylan Hoffman said. "Patrick Morgan continues to lead our offense and has really stepped up as a leader.
"I believe once we get back to full force, we will be very tough."
Morgan went yard in Game 2 as well, as did Miguel Espana.
Jake Barbata picked up the win and Steven Hayden collected the save.
The Warriors host Bethesda for a single game Tuesday.
The Providence series starts Friday.
