SIX STRAIGHT
Dubs Clean Up in Lopsided Week
By Brandon Petersen
Starting last Saturday, Feb. 22nd, and continuing through yesterday, the 1st, the Westcliff baseball team has been absolutely on fire.
In sweeping aside Nobel twice and blowing out Bethesda in a single game, the Warriors outscored their opponents 86-22.
The Dubs have won six straight contests and scored double-figures in five of them, the lone outlier coming in last night's 9-2 win over Nobel in seven innings.
The Warriors now stand at 16-7 overall, and 11-3 at the Great Park.
"This weekend raised confidence and promoted quality at-bats," Westcliff head coach Dylan Hoffman said. "Our starting pitching was on point, with a great pen to support them in later innings."
Joseph Guttmann was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four runs scored in a 14-9 win over Nobel last Saturday.
Patrick Morgan (2B) went yard, as did Tyler Nelson.
In the nightcap, a 16-4 laugher, KJ Moo-Young parked one and Guttmann, Morgan (2), Micah Wallette, JJ Contreras and Hayden Letzing all had doubles.
"It was great to see other guys step up and execute when they had their chance," Hoffman said.
Guttmann (BB) was the catalyst against Bethesda as well, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored from leadoff.
Wallette went yard and both Jack Varney and Ian Avalos (2) had doubles.
Camden Cooper got the nod in that contest and was rock solid, tossing six full of five-hit ball and one earned while strikeout out six.
The Dubs smacked around Nobel this weekend.
Staring with a 17-4 win on Friday, the Warriors added on 17 more in the day game Saturday, and a nine-spot in the capper.
In three games, the Warriors scored 43 runs and allowed eight.
You'll win a heck of a lot of games playing that kind of ball.
Avalos went nuts in Game 1, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two more batted in.
Letzing picked up a pair of knocks, runs and RBIs, and Christian Bartholomew (HR) added two more hits, runs and three batted in.
Nate Slaman added a double.
In Game 2 both Guttmann and Morgan went yard while Bartholomew, Avalos and Zane Parmenter added doubles.
Guttmann had three RBIs.
AJ Quezada had a night in the capper, hitting a double and homerun. Both Varney and Elijah Guemez added doubles of their own.
Cooper once again got the start and struck out nine on a one-hitter through five full.
Brandon Seidner and Antwone Suarez were both perfect in relief, strikeout out one each.
Next up, the Warriors will head to Whittier College for a single game Tuesday, then league play begins with a road trip to Simpson starting Friday.
"We know what we need to work on for the week ahead," Hoffman said. "We are looking forward to conference play."
If it goes anything like how last week played out, Hoffman and the Dubs should be.
