Westcliff Beach opened up their 2023 campaign with a tough matchup against #10 Master's.

The morning saw the Warriors #2 and #4 pairs set the tone for the day and the match.

Westcliff #2's Marine Kinna and Mia Scheppens made effective work quickly getting out in front with a 2-0 set victory: 21-16, 21-15.

Warriors #4 pair dropped their match setting up a final showdown tied at 1 apiece. Pairs #1, #3 and #5 all competed at the same time.

Gianna Guinasso and Brooke Scheidle both returners from last year's championship squad gave the warriors the match lead 2-1 with a 2-0 set victory (23-21, 21-17).

The final pair victory was with Maddie Shepston and Sabrina Galassi with a score of 21-17, 21-17. Warriors Win 3-2.

Westcliff quickly pivoted to a match with Cal State LA right after. This match was very different compared to the 1st. Pairs #2, #3, #4 and #5 all won their matches 2-0 for a quick 4-1 victory over the golden eagles.

Coaches Notes

"Competing for our first time this season was such a joy for the girls. They love to compete and they showed their love for their craft this Friday.

Maddie & Sabrina slotted into our 3's position for this first match day and they played some dynamic volleyball.

These two players are both so fast and move so well that it made for an entertaining few matches as they showcased their athleticism.

This week we are going to focus on emphasizing the flow of the game and a few simple game plans we have during the different phases of a game.

Our hope is that by Wednesday we can begin setting up our offense and defense to force the other team to play our style of volleyball."

Westcliff will host (RV) San Diego Christian this Wednesday at 10am at the OC Great Park
