TUNE-UP
Westcliff Cross Country is back on the path
By Brandon Petersen
The annual John Elders Invitational — hosted by Cal State Fullerton and drawing premier collegiate cross-country programs — took place Oct. 24 at the University's Fullerton course.
For the newly minted program at Westcliff Warriors cross country, the meet was a tune-up ahead of their conference show-down at the end of the week.
Interim head coach Daniel Millard said, "The 'John Elders Invitational' is an event with prestige and history … The Westcliff Warriors competed valiantly alongside colleges such as Cal State Fullerton, Westmont, and USC as well as many more. The student athletes competed in both the women's 6k race and the men's 8k race.
"Great event leading up to our conference meet."
Despite being a newly minted group, the Warriors embraced the challenge and joined the field of established programs. Millard pointed out the significance of simply taking part: "Westcliff is eager for the upcoming challenge."
No individual results were available for Westcliff's runners at press time, but their presence among top competition at the John Elders Invitational offers a foundation from which the program can build.
The team now turns its full focus to the upcoming league meet at Simpson University on Nov. 3. Check back here for full results and a breakdown of how the team did.
