By: Chase Dodge
Westcliff Surf picked up another great competition out at the NSSA Surf Ventura. Semifinals and Final rounds of this event will be picked up at the next competition.
Westcliff Surf had a lot of great performances. Stand out Surfers go to Kylan Crapenhoft in the Longboard competition.
Top Scores from the event for the Men's Shortboard go to Jordy Collins with a 9.33 wave score will be competing in the Semifinal round.
Blaze Roche was right behind Collins at #6 with a 9.23 wave score.
Westcliff so far in this event finished 3rd out of 32 teams.
Coaches' Notes
"Kylan Crapenhoft our longboarder surfed amazing. This was a break through result for him as he has struggled in years past to show his true surfing potential in a heat. He got 2nd in his first round heat with a 9.33 wave score (second highest of event thus far for longboard) and won his second round heat
He lost in the quarters but not by much. Everyone on the team was super happy and proud of him. His family was on the beach as well which made it that much more special.
We ended up in 3rd for event #2 out of 32 teams and will 90% stay in 3rd based on who's still in the event from other teams.
Jordy Collins showed up as always and battled through some crazy heats to make the final which will run in oceanside.
In his semis, he got a wave in the final 30 seconds to move into advancing position and make the final! We were going wild on the beach! It was a great way to end the weekend too.
And Taylor Stacy had another great showing as well. She'll surf her semifinal round in oceanside next event!
Oh another thing. Kylan racked up 15pts for us total which if it weren't for him we would've been in 6th overall. So, his performance was very valuable!" - Head Coach Lucas Taub
