Warriors Win Epic 5OT Showdown against the Firestorm
Westcliff travelled to Arizona to go up against a very tough opponent with the Arizona Christian Firestorm.
 
Warriors opened up the match with a goal from Colby Allen. Firestorm quickly were able to tie and go up by 1 goal in the 1st period.
 
Juan Serna was able to equalize to end the 1st period.
 
2nd Period saw Arizona Christian go up 4-3 headed into halftime.
 
The 3rd period saw Warriors take control with 2 goals from Rameish Jones and Juan Serna to go up 5-4 heading into the 4th period.
 
Arizona Christian went on a run up 7-6 with less than a minute 30 in the contest.
 
Warrior Colby Allen on a powerplay was able to tie and force the overtime showdown.
 
Westcliff and Arizona Christian trading a lot of shots, saves and close calls in 5 overtimes of play.
 
It was in the 5th overtime where Colby Allen was able to find the back of the net to grab the Warriors their 1st MCLA win of the season and in program history.
 
Warriors had a lot of standout performances
 
Tyrese Findlay was crucial in goal for the Warriors allowing 7 goals along with 7 saves. Juan Serna and Rameish Jones eached grabbed 2 goals a piece.
 
Shawn Carillo grabbed a solo goal. Colby Allen led the Warriors with 3 goals and the game winning goal.
 
We talked with Head Coach Mike Song on the performance from the match.
 
"Our game plan was to execute our game and implement our match up and slide package strategy.  Tyrese Findlay had a lot of jaw dropping stops in the goal.
 
Antoine Campbell held their key players to minimal goals. Rameish Jones had key goals, and Colby Allen put the game winning goal in the back of the net.
 
Simply, keep your foot on the gas. We had some great power play man up opportunities and made some key adjustments to get our guys open."
 
Westcliff are home on Saturday March 2nd against Claremont College at University High School game time 1:00pm
