Warriors Run at the Pomona-Pitzer XC Invite

Warriors Run at the Pomona-Pitzer XC Invite
By Francisco Claudio

The Westcliff cross-country team made their first appearance of the season at the Pomona-Pitzer XC Invite.

The Warriors running were Kailea Lucy, Giuliana Galetto Reza, Emmanuel Cheruiyot, and Mert Kiyga.

The Warriors are preparing for the Cal Pac Championship and this event served as a good practice run for the runners.

The men ran the 8000m which is about five miles and then the women ran the 6000m which is about 3.7 miles.

Head Coach Mike Crosby shared his thoughts on the event and results: "Our top man runner Emmanuel Cheruiyot got a side stitch that slowed him down, but we'll solve that for the next race and expect to run much better.

"Mert just came off playing soccer and did a good job running about 35:06 for his first race. Both women had missed some practice due to sickness and injury so I thought they were very courageous to finish the race today which was our goal."

The Warriors will try to have more athletes run in their next competition which will take place on Friday, October 20th, at Cal State Fullerton.

It all leads up to the Cal Pac Championships that will take place at the end of the month in Fresno, California.

Below are the times for the runners during the Pomona-Pitzer Invite:

Men 8K Individual Results (4.97 Mile)

Mert Kiyga - 35.12

Women 6K Individual Results (3.73 Mile)
