The Westcliff women's volleyball team had a busy day, playing against Life Pacific in the first match, and then facing Hope International University in the evening.
In the first match, the Warriors got off to a slow start but fought hard to be up 18-17 in a tight second set. Unfortunately, attack errors by the Warriors hurt them in the straight sets loss: 25-6, 25-21, 25-14.
No. 6 Faith Alvior had five kills and 11 assists.
No. 19 Samantha Carelock recorded eight kills, six digs, and one service ace.
No. 10 Ella Beck added 20 assists.
In the second match, the Warriors battled hard in the three-set loss to Hope: 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.
Westcliff was up in the second and third sets but the Royals were able to get past the Warriors' defense and took control of both sets.
Alvior tallied another six kills, 14 digs, and a service ace.
Carelock added six kills, five service aces, and seven digs.
"We were eight strong today and almost too strong at times," shared head coach Andy Cole after both matches. "Errors are a consistent part of our game. We talked about having an action plan and making individual goals to emphasize error reduction to enhance our growth.
"The focus of Cal Pac play was communicated before these tournaments. The strength was tested and these events provided a great test for tournament play."
The Warriors will be back on the courts on Saturday when they play Life Pacific and Cal Tech.
The match times will be 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Life Pacific University campus.
