The Westcliff women's soccer team has been able to string together better results in the second half of the season as they are unbeaten in the last three contests.
On Thursday the Warriors visited the Providence Christian Sea Beggars and came out on top with a 2-0 victory.
"Tough conditions," said head coach Jack Gidney after the game. "We had a lot of the ball and pressure, but smaller, tighter pitch and credit to Providence they played their high line really effectively."
The Warriors took the lead early on when Christine Thorvaldsen scored in the 8th minute after an assist from Briana Mancilla.
The score stayed the same for the remainder of the first half with the Warriors taking six total shots to Providence Christian's two.
Westcliff dominated the second half a lot more and shot the ball 16 times to five from the Sea Beggars.
In the 80th minute the Warriors scored their second goal as Isabella Saavedra found the back of the net.
"Group found it very tough to figure out but they kept trying to pick the lock and eventually the pressure caved as we sealed the game in the second half," Gidney said. "Unbeaten in three, with seven points from the last nine, so trying to rally here to see what kind of pressure we can put on the rest of the league table.
"We have a little break now before we play again."
Westcliff will depend on many other results going their way in order to steal a spot in the Cal Pac conference tournament.
But the Warriors are playing better and this could be something that carries over to the next season if they aren't fortunate enough to make it to the postseason this year.
The Warriors overall record is 2-6-3 and their conference record is 2-5-2.
They sit in the ninth spot in the conference standings at the moment.
Up Next: They will play Benedictine Mesa on Sunday, October 22nd, at 9:30AM.
