Warriors Hand Bucs First Cal Pac Loss in Split

The Westcliff softball team was the first Cal Pac opponent to take down Park-Gilbert Monday at the Great Park in a doubleheader split. 

The Warriors took the first contest, 11-0, in a mercy-rule drubbing. Park flipped the script in Game 2, shutting out Westcliff, 4-0. 

Westcliff put up crooked numbers in the second, third and fourth in Game 1, with the big inning coming in the second. 

The Warriors put up six in the frame with Iyari Ramirez opening the scoring on a two-run double. 

Haley Garcia (two RBIs) hit a sacrifice fly and Evette Mendoza scored Natalie Ziegler with an RBI single. 

By the time Diamond Lewis tripled to right to score Becky Ramos an inning later, the score stood at 9-0, and the rest was a formality. 

Ramos finished with contest 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Lewis was 2-for-3 as well, also scoring a pair to complement her RBI triple. 

Kassandra Ramos scored two on a hit and a walk, and Iyari Ramirez scored a pair as well. 

In the circle, Emily Rosas was untouchable, picking up the no-hitter on eight strikeouts through five full. 

Rosas threw 62 pitches, 41 for strikes. 

Rosas went six in Game 2, allowing two earned on five hits. She also racked up six more strikeouts to finish the day with 14 total. 

The pitching wasn't the problem in second contest.

Westcliff managed just one hit and three walks off Abril Nerey, who picked up the complete-game win. 

Becky Ramos managed the lone knock. 

Mendoza had a walk, as did Celeste Huffman and Iyari Ramirez. 

With the split, the Warriors moved to 3-3 in Cal Pac play and 8-7 overall. 

Up next, Westcliff is scheduled to finish the four-game series tomorrow at the Great Park. 

An atmospheric river headed toward Irvine could interrupt those plans as rain is in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
