First Half Struggles Too Much for Warriors

The Westcliff men's basketball team struggled to find any rhythm in the first half as they would go on to lose 65-46 against the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds.
It was a slow start for the Warriors who found themselves down 9-2 after missed shots and turnovers.
Korey Hess gave them six quick points off the bench after a couple of layups and free throws to get the score closer.
But Westcliff continued to struggle and had some untimely turnovers as USK would go on a 17-7 run.
As the first half came to a finish the Warriors were looking at a 20-point deficit and a lot of ground to make up in the second half.
Both teams went back and forth in the second half as Westcliff outscored USK 29-28.
That wasn't enough to overcome the deficit from the first half as the Warriors were given their first loss against a conference opponent this season.
The team shot 30% from the field and 13% from beyond the arc.
John Duff led the team with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a block.
Hess scored nine points off the bench and gave the Warriors a quick spark when they needed it in the first half.
The team will have to go back to the drawing board after this result because it was not the start they would have hoped for and it was too much to overcome in the second half.
With the loss, the Warriors have an overall record of (2-4) and a conference record of (2-1).
Up next, they will take on UAV on Saturday, with a start time of 4 PM.
