Warriors Have Strong 2nd Period, Fall to UCI
October 19, 2023
The Westcliff men's water polo team played their final match of the regular season at UCI on Wednesday evening.
The Warriors fell short 23-13, but had a very positive second period where they outscored UCI 8-4.
The DI school started off strong and the Warriors found themselves 8-1 after the first period concluded.
But Westcliff wouldn't back down from this deficit as they started the second period looking like the better team.
The Warriors scored the first two goals of the new period which gave them more confidence to be aggressive.
Manuel Augusto scored with 1:07 left in the second period as the Warriors had cut the lead to 11-9.
They kept battling in the third period but UCI outscored them 5-3, as Westcliff headed into the fourth period down by five.
The Warriors' Giorgi Khizanishvili had a big night scoring a game-high six goals, with an assist, and a steal.
Shalva Khizanishvili scored two goals as did Aleksa Sisakovic.
Now that they have played the final regular season match, the Warriors will turn their attention to the NAIA Finals being held at UC Merced in November.
