Irvine Clash against Westcliff and CUI, Eagles 4th period surge to beat the Warriors
What Happened? It was an Irvine Clash wednesday afternoon at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center with a matchup with your Westcliff Warriors (1-9) and CUI Eagles (2-4). First period started off with the eagles gaining a 2-0 lead against the warriors. After the second goal, warriors responded with a goal by #10 Vincenzo Inguanta. A full minute later #10 Vincenzo Inguanta was able to equalize the game at 2-2 with 1:31 left in the 1st period. Second Period was a little bit slower than the first with CUI scoring half way through the period. 1:30 left in the 2nd period #8 Luca Silvestri was able to cut down on the eagles lead making it 3-4. After Halftime in the Third period which will turn out to be the most intense on both sides fighting for supremacy. 20 seconds into the match the eagles were able to extend their lead off of a penalty shot. The Warriors were able to respond during a powerplay with a scoring opporunity supplied by #10 Vincenzo Inguanta to #8 Luca Silvestri finding the back of the net. The eagles during this period were able to score 2 more goals to make the game 4-7. The warriors were able to score again off of a powerplay this time created by #4 Silvestre Chavez to #8 Luca Silvestri. The eagles called a time out and were able to respond extending their lead to 5-8. It was at this moment the warriors decided to push with time slowly ticking off the clock. Goal scored by #10 Vincenzo Inguanta with :30 sec left in the period. However, that was not it for the warriors with :03 sec left #8 Luca Silvestri was able to find the net. The eagles tried to respond with mere seconds on the clock with a shot on goal but was denied by #1 Roberto Barrera for the save. Which ended a very exciting third period 7-8. The final period had many shots by both squads. However the eagles were able to fly ahead with a final score of 8-11.
The Warriors finished the game with 8 goals, 30 shots taken. Along with having 4 goals on 9 power play opportunities. Let's not forget our iron wall in the net #1 Roberto Barrera ending the match with 11 saves and 1 steal.
